Louis Anthony Boone Dumfries Death Potomac Shores, VA Shooting
A quiet evening at a neighborhood basketball court in Potomac Shores, Virginia, turned tragic Monday when gunfire erupted, leaving 18-year-old Louis Anthony Boone of Dumfries dead and several others injured. The sudden violence has left family members, friends, and community residents struggling to come to terms with the loss.
According to authorities, officers were called to the 1800 block of Potomac Shores Parkway around 5:33 p.m. after reports of shots fired near a basketball court where several young people had gathered to play. What had begun as a routine pickup game quickly descended into chaos.
Investigators say a group of players was approached by another group of individuals, and at some point during the confrontation, gunfire broke out. As shots rang out, people scattered from the court in an effort to escape the danger.
When officers arrived, they discovered Boone suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries. Four other males were also struck by gunfire during the incident. Officials say the victims, ranging in age from 16 to 20, are expected to survive.
The injured include a 20-year-old man from Woodbridge, a 16-year-old from Dumfries, and two 17-year-olds from Woodbridge. Authorities have not released their identities as the investigation continues.
Police detained several individuals at the scene while detectives work to determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation. Investigators say the shooting does not appear to have been random.
Those who knew Boone remember him as a caring and thoughtful young man who was pursuing college and had aspirations for the future. Friends describe him as a “kind soul” who valued the people around him.
The tragedy has deeply affected the Prince William County community, marking the county’s fifth homicide of the year and raising renewed concerns about violence affecting young people in everyday gathering places.
The family will release the obituary, memorial, funeral, and visitation details in the coming days.
