Cynthia Hansen Death After Early Morning Assault at Local Fitness Studio Whiteville
The town of Whiteville, North Carolina, is mourning the tragic loss of Cynthia Hansen, a longtime fitness coach and local business owner who died after a violent assault inside her gym early Wednesday morning.
According to the Whiteville Police Department, the attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on March 11 at Stronger Body Fitness, located at 711 North Thompson Street. Officers were called to the gym after reports that a woman had been assaulted inside the building. When they arrived, Hansen was still conscious but suffering from serious injuries.
Emergency responders transported her to Columbus Regional Healthcare System, where medical staff worked to save her life. Despite those efforts, Hansen later died at the hospital. Authorities have since classified the case as a homicide, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police secured the area around the fitness studio for several hours while investigators collected evidence. Portions of North Thompson Street near East Smith Street were temporarily closed as officers worked to determine what occurred inside the gym.
Agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have joined the case to assist local authorities. Investigators say they are actively following leads but have not yet released information about a possible suspect or motive.
Hansen, 71, was widely known throughout Whiteville as the owner and operator of Stronger Body Fitness, where she spent years encouraging clients to stay active and healthy. Friends and members describe her as a dedicated coach who greeted people each morning with positivity and motivation.
Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said Hansen had become a familiar and respected figure in the community, with many residents having trained with her over the years.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Whiteville Police Department.
