Woodbridge Wrong‑Way Crash Kills Amanda and Patrick Chaloupka
Woodbridge, VA — A tragic wrong-way crash on March 8 has claimed the lives of Amanda Chaloupka, 40, and Patrick Michael Chaloupka, 42, leaving their family and the Woodbridge community in mourning. The couple died after their vehicle was struck in a devastating collision at the intersection of Cardinal Drive and Whips Run Drive.
Police say the crash happened shortly after 6:45 p.m. when a 2015 Hyundai Genesis was traveling eastbound against traffic on Cardinal Drive. As the vehicle reached the intersection at Whips Run Drive, it collided head-on with the Chaloupkas’ 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. The force of the impact pushed their SUV into another vehicle, a 2025 GMC Hummer, which was also traveling east. Debris from the crash scattered across the roadway and into a nearby driveway, striking a parked 2024 Honda Accord.
First responders quickly transported Amanda and Patrick to a local hospital, but both later died from the severe injuries they suffered in the crash. The 27-year-old woman driving the Genesis was seriously injured and hospitalized in critical condition. The 23-year-old driver of the Hummer was treated at the scene and did not suffer injuries.
Those who knew the couple say they were deeply devoted parents and valued members of their community. Friends recall seeing them frequently at school functions and neighborhood gatherings, where their kindness and welcoming nature made a lasting impression.
Amanda and Patrick leave behind three children, whose lives have been forever changed by the tragedy. In response, neighbors and community members have begun organizing support efforts to help the family during this difficult time.
Investigators are continuing to examine what led to the wrong-way driving, including whether factors such as speed or distraction may have played a role. Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact police.
The family will share the obituary, memorial, funeral, and visitation details once arrangements have been finalized.
